Start with the strongest natural groups rather than counting every even tile as equally useful. Two matching sixes may be more important than four unrelated even singles because a printed pair cannot be completed with a joker.

Even-number hands also create tempting but misleading overlaps. A two-four-six sequence in one suit may resemble a usable core, while the card may require repeated eights, matching dragons, or a second suit in a specific color relationship. Read the whole line from left to right before deciding that an attractive cluster is the center of the hand.
