What to Check Before You Buy
Keep the Table Clear
Measure the lamp’s base and height. Place it where players can reach their tiles and see across the table without working around the shade.
Check Light Direction and Controls
Look for lighting that makes tile faces and rules cards comfortable to read. Consider shade coverage, glare, and whether the listing offers brightness adjustment.
Verify Power and Quantity
Some lamps plug in; others use rechargeable batteries. Check the actual listing for power, charging, included bulbs, and whether you are buying a single lamp or a pair.
Common Questions
Does a lamp have to be designed specifically for mahjong?
No. A general table lamp can be a useful option if its footprint, light, and power arrangement suit your playing space.
Are all of these lamps cordless?
No. Power requirements vary. Check the listing rather than assuming that a small table lamp is rechargeable or cordless.
